Although whether or not Gearbox has truly addressed issues with the cast is something we won’t know until the game comes out next month. It certainly helps that Tina is a much more likable character than most of the main cast of Borderlands 3. But the interactions between characters did win a few genuine laughs out of me. It’s difficult to say how good the story will be, as I was only given access to a small part of the game. Fortunately, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands seems to do a better job on this front. Just the thought of any scene that featured Ava still makes me shudder to this day. The problem with Borderlands 3 is that it featured some of the most cringeworthy story writing known to man. Its visuals, gunplay, and class balance were well-thought out and, in many ways, brought many improvements over its predecessors. However, this is actually a good thing as the core of the game was really good. Some of you may have audibly sighed reading that, as Borderlands 3 was by no means the best in the series.

More specifically, Wonderlands is built upon Borderlands 3. Yet from my time playing it there’s no doubt that this is still strictly a Borderlands game. Even so, the Borderlands name was omitted, suggesting that this game changes up the formula enough to qualify as its own series. This standalone game is the successor to Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep, a popular DLC for Borderlands 2. Many are saying this is the best DLC that BL2 has to offer, which kinda makes me sad since so far this is the only one I have played, so I guess it is downhill from here.I went into Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands not knowing exactly what to expect. Not to mention there are some ungodly repetitive sections where you have to mow down wave after wave of generic knights and sorcerers and this becomes so tedious that it loses any appeal.

I do love the music here and some of the visual aspects, but the gameplay itself is no different than anything else up to this point.

It is basically just a skin change of the original game and that's it. There is clearly no attempt here to change the experience in any meaningful way. Another fight is with a dragon that constantly has minions spawning while the dragon pelts you with fire. Each one operates exactly the same with no change in their tactics or behavior. One of them is fighting 4 of the same undead giants back to back to back to back. The humor here, much like the rest of the game, is very hit and miss. You get all the typical tabletop jokes and the characters of course spout out their one liners and Tiny Tina herself continues to be just as annoying as ever. The same dull mechanics are used over and over again, like enemies leveling up, only this time some of them level up to insane levels for no reason! The enemies here are the typical generic tabletop RPG fare, in fact this whole thing is pretty bog-standard for the concept.
